Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races Partners with West Virginia Breast Health Initiative for First-Ever “Rock-it for the Ribbon” October Challenge

Month long event to raise money in support of breast cancer awareness

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – (September 2020) – In partnership with the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative, Inc., Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races proudly presents their first virtual “Rock-it for the Ribbon” October Challenge, replacing the annual Race for the Ribbon event for safety reasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All money raised will go towards helping breast cancer survivors, patients and their families throughout West Virginia. Prior Race for the Ribbon events have raised approximately $160,000 for breast cancer care and treatment in the state of West Virginia.

“While life may look different this year, one thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment to giving back to our local community,” said Erich Zimny, Vice President of Racing and Sports Operations from Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races. “The virtual ‘Rock-it for the Ribbon’ event will help us continue support to those living in West Virginia who are impacted by breast cancer and we encourage all of our guests to help the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative.”

And it’s easy to help. During the month of October, participants can buy a “Rock-it for the Ribbon” Challenge t-shirt for $25 – no registration required. Throughout the month, participants are encouraged to “rock” their shirts by taking a picture or short video of themselves wearing their “Rock-it for the Ribbon” t-shirts and sharing them on social media using the hashtags #YourDayYourWay and #RockItForTheRibbon. The challenge? When sharing, encourage others to donate, buy a t-shirt and participate in the virtual event, too. Due to there being no physical event, participants can physically participate however they choose: walk, run, hike, it’s up to you!

“Here at WVBHI, we definitely understand that the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic have left many financially stricken,” said Debbie Townsend, President of the West Virginia Breast Health Initiative’s Board of Directors. “However, these fighters still need our support this year and for years to come. Their battle has not ended.”
